Frequently Asked Questions

What is sgraffito?

Sgraffito is a process where the ceramic is coated with coloured slip, which is then hand-carved before the first (bisque) firing. It’s a time-consuming process, and there may be slight imperfections in the carving, slip coverage, and glaze coverage. I’m only human, and the pottery goddess is a cruel mistress.

Why is everything so expensive?

Pottery takes a long time. Throwing, trimming, painting slip, carving the items, firing them, glazing them, then firing again… you get the picture! I do my best to charge fair prices that reflect the amount of work involved in making each piece. I hope you agree that it is worth it!

Why are there no shipping options?

Truthfully, I’m a disabled artist who has ADHD, and I’m a little afraid of the post office. That being said, I am researching options, and shipping will be available soon!

Where can I pick up my order?

I work out of the Claymates studio located at 1288 Vernon Drive, Vancouver, BC. I’m typically there on Saturday mornings and Tuesday evenings, but am happy to arrange a time that works for you! Contact me directly for more info!

What about local delivery?

I’m happy to arrange delivery by bicycle within Vancouver – please note, I don’t drive, so this option may be weather and distance-dependent. Contact me directly for more info!

Do you have any lingering inquiries?

Feel free to send me an email and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!
